Artist's Statement:

I studied sculpting for years before picking up a paintbrush. To be honest, I only really started painting to decorate my bleak college apartment. I approach painting as a sculptor.

I take inspiration from Pointillism. It amazes me that so many tiny dots can come together and form an image, but one character flaw stands in my way of becoming a great Pointillist. I lack patience. This, by the way, is why I don't paint in oils. So, rather than make tiny dots, I make big ones. And they are really more blotches than dots. I find that blotching enough paint in layers creates great depth. And in a way I am still sculpting. I am building a picture or scene, not painting it. Like adding more plaster or clay to a piece, I blotch on more paint, and eventually my image finds me.
